Our History

Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers – Southwest (VIC-SW), Faith in Action, is a coalition of faith based congregations who joined together in 1994 to address the needs of the elderly and health impaired people in southwest Houston.  Formal service started in 1996.

VIC-SW was the first group of its kind in Houston to receive a Faith in Action grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 1994.  The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care.

Della Reese is the national spokesperson for Faith in Action groups. If you would like to read a biography of Della Reese, click here.

Our volunteer drivers average more than 22,000 miles a year and donate more than 3,000 hours to provide more than 1100 requests for assistance from our care receivers.
